Can you believe we’ve entered into our last month of our residency at Coal Harbour Community Centre and West End Community Centre? It’s been such an incredible time seeing so many community members in our weekly drop in classes familiarizing themselves with different dance forms, getting to know one another, and getting to know us through dance and music. We only have about 3 weeks left of classes and we SO look forward to moving together with all of you before they’re done. So make sure you sign up for our last set of classes.
Here’s some of our weekly offerings for the months of October/November as well as one larger scale gathering event and their descriptions:
Move Together Open Jam
Sunday Nov 26, 2023 | 5-9:30pm | Coal Harbour Community Centre
To close off such an amazing year, we are throwing you one last party! Join us for an evening full of music, dance, and good VIBEZ! This free event offers a 1-hour Hip Hop dance workshop taught by Artists in Community, Sophia Sosa and Jamn Camrn, followed by a dance party featuring live DJ, dance cypher prizes, special performances and more! Spread the word!
Beginner Grooving class
Beginners welcome and no experience necessary! Learn the basic grooving techniques and Hip Hop party steps from one of Vancouver's finest!
BEGINNER BREAKING
An energetic style of dance incorporating athletic and acrobatic movements both standing and on the floor to a mix of funk, soul, and Hip Hop music.
DANCE FIT:
A FREE conditioning and mobility class using dance techniques to strengthen and engage our bodies. Come party and workout all at the same time! Open to individuals regardless of age, body type, or gender.
DANCE SOCIAL
FREE open studio space, also known as "Open Session" for dancers and/or ANY individuals who would like to practice dance, connect and socialize.
LOBBY ACTIVATION
Along with our weekly skill building and community building dance classes, last month we hosted a small scale lobby activation event at the West End Community Centre. At this event we had the opportunity to share with community members about our upcoming events (one of which we’ll detail more below), as well as share in impromptu dances, lessons, and connect through dialogue about life and art. We thoroughly enjoyed activating this space with music and dance, interacting with community members enjoying other activities and amenities at the centre even at a distance through a wave, nod, smile, or kind words of encouragement that they enjoyed the dancing they saw.
